Kajagoogoo were a British pop band best known for their first single, " Too Shy ", which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart and number five in the U. S Billboard Hot in In , they advertised for and auditioned lead singers, and finally chose Christopher Hamill, who used an anagram of his surname for his stage name, becoming Limahl. The debut single "Too Shy" was released in January of and went to the top of the charts before any of Duran Duran's singles had done so, Rhodes noted ruefully. The band fired Limahl in , with Beggs taking over as singer for two more albums before the band broke up completely in Limahl had a solo hit single with "Neverending Story" in He, Beggs, and the other band members have continued to make music in solo ventures and as contributors to other groups and projects. The band reunited briefly for the VH1 show Bands Reunited.

Art Nouveau released a track called "The Fear Machine", which sold a few hundred copies and enjoyed airtime on John Peel's show. In spite of the song's success, the band failed to secure a record deal during this period. In , Art Noveau advertised for a new lead singer. They ultimately auditioned and chose Christopher Hamill , who then went under the stage name Limahl an anagram of his surname. The group renamed themselves Kajagoogoo , a name coined phonetically from ga ga goo goo , the first sounds that many infants make. The single was released on 10 January and topped the UK Singles Chart [1] , having done so before any of Duran Duran's singles as Rhodes himself has lightheartedly noted. Their performance on 31 May at the London Hammersmith Odeon was filmed and released on home video.
